La Roche Posay is a small town in the Vienne, near Touraine in western France. What makes this town so special is that it is home to a very special spring water that contains a large amount of selenium, a trace element with numerous therapeutic and dermatologic benefits.

Legend has it that during the middle ages the Knight Sir Bertrand Du Guesclin was traveling past the spring and stopped to get water for himself and his horse. The horse, who suffered from eczema, plunged onto the water and came out cured. The stories of the therapeutic qualities of this spring and its beneficial spring water have continued to grow though the centuries.

Pierre Milon, the doctor of Louis XIII, went to La Roche-Posay to analyze the water for the very first time, and Des Académie des Sciences, sent researchers there as of 1670 to further study the waters therapeutic qualities.

Napoleon, upon his return from Egypt, had a thermal hospital built at La Roche-Posay to treat the skin diseases of his soldiers.
